Y-FRAME RUBBER HUB CAP RETENTION

How do I stop loosing my rubber hub caps on my Y-Frame trailer?

There are two ways to guard against this.

1) put a drop of superglue between the hub cap and the hub, just a drop mind. This will stop the cap escaping, but be small enough for it to be forced apart for occational maintainence.

2) Put the hub cap in place as normal, then loop a Zip tie between two opposing spokes, so the zip tie passes over the top of the cap. This is soft enough to allow button function of the wheel, but can be cut of for access if needed.

In May 2008 I bought a large freedom Y Frame trailer on line from an established cycle website, I have been very happy and impressed with it.

However whilst on tour this year I managed to lose both rubber hub retention caps and saw the advice on retention too late I fear.

Having emailed the supplier that I purchased the trailer from, I was told they don't supply parts. I also contacted another on line cycle shop who retails the trailer but they sell no spares either.

I can't help but think that this is a poor policy, it reflects in a small way why the British Car industry folded in the UK.

Foreign manufactures insisted that retailers carried sufficient spares to meet demands, not so for British manufactures.

I can understand the cost implications of holding large volumes of spares which go out of use as models change , but be fair the trailer is a well tested bit of kit which does not change at regular intervals.

So how about requiring that retailers act responsibly by carrying spares thereby giving confidence in the longevity of use of the trailer

Well I must set the record straight and say that I have just received a pair of rubber plugs from the manufactures of Carry Freedom trailers and you can't get any better than that. Well done chaps you've saved my bacon. A very Happy New year to you all.
